Am I better off steaming off the textured finish and then going mad with the bolster? They are hard and were originally white in colour but have often been painted over. Someone told him to score the paper first to let the steam penetrate! Mon Aug 06, 1: Yup I would go along with Big Dunk, looks the same to me.

HSE aims to reduce work-related death, injury and ill health. Hi all I am going to redecorate our early 70’s built two bed bungalow and it will involve scraping off some stubborn wallpaper including woodchip wallpaper.
How do you create this effect?
Woodchip wall paper! Strip or just plaster over it? | TES Community
I stripped loads of woodchip in my time! If the same ceiling then “artex? Edited 1 time s. If it helps, I think the the skim of plaster that was over the top was from aboutso the textured finish could realistically be any time before this. Ahhh, I did not explain well. I actually think I used to play in a farm house barn with stacks of this stuff sitting on the floor when I was a kid the type of tiles you have in garage roofsbut I suppose that damage is done and won’t know how that will turn out for another few years.
Discussion in ‘ Personal ‘ started by lizzywilmotFeb 21, Hi, please can someone advise whether my ceilings are artex or wood chip? It was based on nothing except I’ve heard some people say it!

Artex or woodchip?!
Unfortunately the plaster behind it is cracked and blown in places, and I can’t afford to lose space by boarding over the top. Artexing is the one to watch out for. The new boards will strengthen the ceiling and give a much nicer surface to work with. If the plaster is old it sometimes breaks up with steam or wetting so be prepared to do some repairs.
Lath & plaster & woodchip wallpaper
I haven’t seen metal washers like that but we have a good few hundred plastic equivalents embedded in our render and plaster: VickyBH asebstos Oct SiH17 Aug SpecialK 20 Apr at 5: Huxley8619 Apr at 4: Better safe than sorry.
Sun Aug 05, 6: This meant he effectively chopped the paper into lots of tiny bits, each one needing scrapping off separately whilst mine was coming off in larger sheets! I’m really concerned about asbestos if artex as I have an electrician installing down lights. If this stuff is in homes, due to no fault of the home owner, then the course should be free.
I don’t really care about what is fashionable, I just hate woodchip, it reminds me a horrible smelly old peoples’ houses. Reason is the coating is on the ceiling as well – the ceiling looks very much like Artex as the texture ‘hangs’ with wodchip.
Not woodcihp ceiling finishes are artex. I’ve actually used both approaches. Your landlord has not exactly pushed the boat out when it comes to decorating has he! CommentAuthor alexj CommentTime Aug 10th
